Marriage

The purpose of marriage is to give life and love to the world. A married couple, by the way they fulfill their marriage vows, will love, honor and nurture each other. In Christian marriage, the relationship is also meant to be an example for the community of what it means to be loving and faithful to another human being.

At St. Luke’s, the sacrament of marriage may be extended to all members and their families who may be legally married in Pennsylvania. In some cases, particularly involving a prior marriage in the church, the consent of the bishop may be needed. If you wish to be married here, it is important to meet with the priest in charge at least six months before your wedding date to schedule a date and pre-marriage counseling.

Please note that in the Episcopal tradition, marriages are not generally celebrated in Advent and in Lent because these are penitential seasons during which times festal liturgies, such as weddings, are not appropriate.
